Located one hundred and forty-four miles northwest of Acapulco, on the La Costa Grande next to the Pacific Ocean in the state of Guerrero lies the communities of Ixtapa Zihuatanejo, Troncones and La Barra de Potosí, Mexico.

Ixtapa is one of the few government planned resort areas featuring high-rise beachfront hotels adjacent to the quaint fishing community of Zihuatanejo. Petatlan is another community, Petatlan that is just a short half hour drive from Zihuatanejo.

Playa Larga, Playa Blanca and Las Pozas combine to form a 15 kilometer sandy stretch of beach to the south of the Zihuatanejo hills, comprising one of the most gorgeous beach resort areas in the world. Often the stretch is simply referred to as Playa Larga, but many people refer to the northern stretch as Playa Larga, the section and lagoon at the north end of the airport as Las Pozas, and the southern stretch, from the airport to Barra de Potosí, as Playa Blanca.
