Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo is casual by day but can be dressy by night, depending upon where you go. Women wear light or gauzy skirts or dressy pants in the evenings. Men stick to cool shirts or the ever-popular tropical guayabera (a pleated or embroderied cotton shirt worn untucked). Jackets and ties are never required in restaurants, but some of the high-end establishments have dress codes that exclude dressing in shorts and sandals.

Most restaurants take advantage of the fresh seafood caught in the area, no matter what type of cuisine they specialize in. You will find everything from open air seaside stands to elegant candlelight dining.
